Going global and a Hunkeler hunt

Darryl Danielli tracks down the solutions to your technical troubles

I am trying to source commercial and display printers in Saudi Arabia for a client that prints brochures, stationery and corporate material, as well as pop-ups and roll-ups, for a trade show.
Matt Turner, Creative Pod

Luckily PrintWeek’s global footprint spreads far and wide, so for this request I turned to A’Eysha Kassiem, the editor of PrintWeek’s sister Middle East and Africa title, PrintWeek MEA. She says there are plenty of reliable offset printers in Saudi Arabia, and she recommends Al Azzaz Printing Press (00966 4777721) and Hala Printing Press (00966 4821313) as good first ports of call. Both are based in the country’s capital Riyadh, but also have offices elsewhere in KSA. Al Azzaz specialises in printing brochures, posters, business cards and other promotional material. The company also operates its own graphic design department and offers a free consultation on all jobs. Hala Printing Press also offers promotional printing and, according to A’Eysha, the company guarantees fast turnarounds and high quality.

I wonder if you can point me in the right direction please? Essentially, I’m looking for a company with a Hunkeler mailing line in the east London area that can cope with applying a line of peelable glue to a pre-made-up booklet. It would become an optipost format.
Romona Harron-Harding, Park Communications

I spoke to Hunkeler’s UK agent, Friedheim International, and, while they couldn’t come up with anything in east London, they did suggest Andrews Finishing (01753 639887) in Iver, Bucks. I spoke to the firm’s John Manderson who said they may be able to help as they have five, yes five, Hunkeler mailing lines. The only potential hiccup is the company usually handles flat sheets and does all the folding, stitching, trimming and gluing in one pass. That said, John thought it was possible, depending on run-lengths etc and a successful trial.

Scratch and sniff #2
Alderson Print Group sales director Philip Blackwell got in touch following Lee Stacey’s request for help in putting together a scratch and sniff Wimbledon-themed campaign. Aldersons has been producing fragrance printing for more than 10 years and works closely with microencapsulation specialist Celessence Technologies. The company said it can apply scratch and sniff fragrances on either their sheetfed or web offset presses.
