A while back a chum gave an entire presentation on the subject of KISS – otherwise known as Keep It Simple, Stupid. This adage came to mind while listening to some wise words from Alison Branch, managing director at Park Communications, at the recent PrintWeek Directors’ Briefing held in association with the lovely folk at Fujifilm. Alison’s top tip was a classic KISS – a focus on achieving measurable success on a single target, be it reducing waste or improving some other key metric, rather than setting people off working on this that and the other and achieving none of them. The benefits of focusing on one thing at a time, getting it right and celebrating the achievement before moving on to the next ‘to do’ include that most priceless commodity - motivated employees who can justly feel they’ve achieved something. The converse being that people can easily end up demotivated and deflated when a scattergun approach results in too many projects being tackled, none of them successfully. It’s a strategy that’s obviously paying off for the multi-award winning Park. Success sealed with a KISS.
