Competitive tensions

Ooh, I do love a good spat.

Noses at Manroland Sheetfed seem to be seriously out-of-joint about KBA offering to service Manroland presses. Opportunistic? Being opportunistic is what business is all about, isn't it? Spotting opportunities and taking advantage of them.  I don't really see opportunistic as a pejorative term.

And isn't that, um, exactly how Tony Langley acted by buying the Manroland sheetfed business in the first place?

As for Manroland saying KBA's move "is not the action of a world-class company", I'm scratching my head about that too. As far as I know, KBA has not been engaged in any sort of smear campaign. It has employed some highly-skilled staff who lost their jobs during Manroland's insolvency, and added a new string to its bow.

I can't think of many [any] highly-competitive businesses where one company would stand by politely while a competitor sorted out their problems. Can you? Ultimately it will be the customers who decide whether this is a compelling offer, or not.

All of this will make the dynamics at Drupa even more fascinating than usual. Shall be measuring the tension between halls 6 and 16.
