Xeikon has launched a seven-colour UV inkjet label press to broaden its portfolio offering and support flexo migration, while simultaneously embracing the trend of label houses looking to offer both toner and inkjet technologies.

“The addition of this high-end, digital production label press is an important step in the Xeikon strategy, said Xeikon VP marketing Filip Weymans.

“Label printing companies can now opt for a dry toner press or an inkjet press, for an entry-level solution or a fully geared high-end production press, from a five-colour engine up to a seven-colour engine.”

The new PX30000 features eight print stations and can be configured to run either six or seven colours, CMYK plus orange and violet and double hit white. It has a top speed of 70m/min or 50m/min when running high opaque white.

According to senior product manager Frank Jacobs, the press can match 92% of Pantone colours.

The Belgian manufacturer’s flagship label press features many of the core print technologies of the recently launched Domino N730i label press, but is configured with Xeikon’s X-800 DFE and runs the manufacturer’s low migration PantherCure UX XT inkset.

“Apart from integration capabilities, the X-800 workflow enables further automation for complete label production. Making use of its intelligent imposition algorithms to position the labels on the web can help reduce costs by optimising production times,” said Weymans.

It can handle reels up to 340mm wide, offering a 333mm print width, and its unwind and rewind units can support reels up to 1m in diameter.

The new press is commercially available immediately and, according to Xeikon, is targeted at high-end applications.

The PX30000 launch follows the introduction of the standalone Xeikon FEU embellishment press, and OEM’s version of MGI’s JETvarnish 3D Web earlier this month.

The standalone press is capable of UV spot varnish, high-build and textured varnish and foiling across a range of substrates including paper, clear on clear, and common BOPP.
