The inkjet technology developer said the Domino N730i label press has been developed from the ground up over the past five years.
Domino Digital Printing Solutions director Philip Easton said he believed the UV machine “sets new standards in high-performance inkjet label printing”.
“This is the most significant new product we have launched since we started in the digital label press business. It has been a huge collaborative team effort,” he said.
Among a raft of innovations it features a new 1,200dpi Bitstar printhead from parent company Brother that offers droplets down to 2.1pl and enables it to run at 70m/min in the highest quality mode, compared to the 50m/min offered by its Kyocera equipped sibling the N610i.
Commercially available immediately, the seventh-generation N730i can run webs from 170mm to 340mm wide and offers printing across the full width.
Like the N610i it can be configured with up to seven colours, running the UV90 inkset, which is available in CMYK, orange, violet and white, and can be retrofitted with a flexo units for priming, varnishing and spot colours.
However, as well as the new heads it features a number of other productivity and quality enhancements over the N610i, which, according to global product manager Louise Adcock will enable users to “win business against their competitors on the labels they can produce, they make a profit from delivering them efficiently”.
“The N730i’s consistent high print quality will mean they will win more business, while high speed combined with reliability means they can also print it efficiently,” she explained.
The productivity enhancements are centred on Domino’s i-Tech features, including the new SetAlign system, which automatically sets density and printhead alignment.
The N730i inherits enhanced modules from the N610i such as a new version of automated head cleaning and capping system, CleanCap2 and proven i-Tech features including ActiFlow continuous ink circulation system, ink management system UltraMix, and Web reversal function WebRev.
It also benefits from a new fully configurable and rewritten GUI, SunLight, and is installed with the latest Esko digital front end, version 3.0.
“When we introduced our N600i and then the N610i digital label presses, our focus was to be as good as flexo. With the N730i, we believe we are offering a quality of output that sets a new high performance inkjet standard, and perhaps now flexo needs to start catching up,” said Easton.
