Denmaur has expanded its range of carbon balanced grades, adding UPM Fine to its portfolio.

The merchanting group has stocked the woodfree uncoated grade for more than 20 years. But through its partnership with Carbon Balanced Paper and the World Land Trust, from 1 January 2021 it will make it available as a carbon balanced product at no additional cost.

“Carbon Balanced Paper is a recognised and established offsetting scheme for paper and print. We are known as the UK stockist merchant for UPM Fine products, it was a natural decision to carbon balance the range and further support the critical work of the World Land Trust,” said Denmaur managing director Nick Gee.

The business stocks large volumes of UPM Fine sheets at its 12,000sqm Bardon, Leicestershire distribution hub in weights from 60-350gsm across a wide range of formats. Carbon balanced web and Cutstar reels are also available on a two-day turnaround.

The grade is suitable for a wide range of applications including books, business forms, direct mailing, flyers, magazines, newspaper supplements, and posters.

While it’s already accredited to a wide range of environmental standards including those from EMAS, FSC and ISO, marketing and sustainability director Danny Doogan said offsetting was increasingly being recognised by consumers and producers alike “as a necessary process in the fight against climate change”.

The Carbon Balanced Paper and World Land Trust scheme is based on a REDD+ programme (reducing emissions from deforestation and forest degradation), which, according to Doogan, is recognised as one of the most effective methods for removing atmospheric carbon emissions by conserving, protecting and further developing vast areas of forest

UPM Fine joins a portfolio of carbon balanced grades stocked by Denmaur that includes Revive recycled coated and uncoated, Amadeus and Amadeus Digital, Innovation, Arctic Snow, Fixter self-adhesive, Ibema Supera and Supera White, and Delipac barrier packaging board.
