Guardian Media Group (GMG) is considering outsourcing its printing and potentially becoming a tabloid as one of a series of cost-cutting measures.

Nearly 100 staff who worked at Aylesford Newsprint in Kent have been awarded around £750,000 after being dismissed without consultation with their union.

Unite has reacted angrily after administrators moved in to Aylesford Newsprint yesterday and immediately closed the mill and made 233 staff redundant.

Aylesford Newsprint is poised to be placed into administration, putting 300 jobs at risk and potentially halving the UK’s newsprint capacity.
