Online print specialist Printed Easy installed a new Scodix Ultra 6000 Smart High Definition (SHD) last month.

Fresh off the back of a £5m investment programme, the installation of the new Scodix Ultra SHD device took place at the firm’s Letchworth Garden City site.

The machine, which has a list price of around $1m (£800,000), will allow Printed Easy to bring spot UV work in-house while its foiling capability replaces an older in-house foiling unit.

A key attraction for the firm is the ability to achieve ultra-high-quality embellishment at economical prices on everything from SRA3 to B1. The business will use the SHD device to add both raised and flat UV and foil to every commercial product in its range.

Printed Easy offers a wide spectrum of commercial print products including bound documents, brochures, leaflets, stationery, luxury labels and stickers and a range of large-format products.

Managing director Jon Lancaster said: “The B1 format and new polymers allow low cost-per-sheet which competes with conventional UV on a flat finish, whilst SHD brings us breakthrough quality in terms of sharpness and detail.”

Launched by Scodix in October 2022, the B1 Ultra 6000 SHD builds on the success of the Ultra 6000. It can enhance up to 1,000 B1 sheets per hour and is targeted at the packaging sector and high-definition printers, offering the ability to produce complicated detailing for foiling and spot embellishments suitable for the beauty, healthcare, chocolate and spirit product markets.

The device is the newest installation at Printed Easy’s 4,000sqm facility after the 18-month investment drive, which kicked off in 2021, added kit including an HP Indigo 100K, two new HP Indigo WS6900 label presses, four ABG DigiLase Series 4 laser cutters, an ABG DigiJet digital embellishment line for spot UV and foiling and an ABG Digicon die-cutter. The spend also included two label sheeters and two automatic core cutting machines, while a complete rebuild and upgrade of its website was added as well.

President of EMEA for Scodix, Franz Repp, said: “We’re excited that with the Scodix Ultra 6000, Printed Easy will fulfil even more of its customers’ expectations with a large range of embellishment options, along with dynamic pricing across all its products, run lengths and custom sizes. I feel everything is set to meet their high demands for production economics.”
