Prime Group in HP Indigo 12000 HD buy

Prime Group is set for a quality boost after signing for an HP Indigo 12000 HD B2 digital press.

The machine, which is due to be installed at the Blidworth, Nottinghamshire-based company’s 1,400sqm premises later this month, will replace its existing HP Indigo 10000, which went in nearly five years ago. The business also operates an Indigo 7800.

The 12000 HD’s high-definition writing heads double the print resolution and achieve higher image smoothness, which HP claims surpasses offset quality by printing 1,600dpi with high lpi screen sets up to 290lpi. The high-definition imaging system uses an additional 12 laser beams to achieve the higher resolution.

Prime Group managing director Jon Tolley told PrintWeek: “We were an early adopter of the 10000 so rather than do the upgrade on that we decided to go for the 12000 HD.

“The step change in quality on the press is fantastic. The resolution of the print is a marked step increase.”

Tolley said the company had a look at other options on the market prior to making its decision “to keep up to date with what’s out there”.

“But that format size is beneficial to us with some of the unique products that we do, so this just adds a marked increase on the output. We’re looking forward to it going in.”

Prime Group, which has 53 staff and a turnover of £5.5m, is also planning to spend around £500,000 on new finishing kit later this year.
