HP launches new PageWide

HP has launched the latest addition to its PageWide range, the XL 5100.

Due for commercial launch on 31 January 2018, the machine is intended for repro departments, enterprise print rooms, architectural or engineering firms and commercial printers for POS applications. It runs at speeds of up to 20A1ppm, printing at maximum 1,200dpi resolution with eight print cartridges and four (CMYK) pigment-based inks.

"The new HP PageWide XL 5100 printers and multifunction printers join the fastest large format printer portfolio in the market, along with the HP PageWide XL 4000, 4500 and 8000,” said HP UK large-format marketing manager Anne Sharp.

“We have developed a range of large format printers that due to their unique features allow them to produce durable, high-quality outputs with both dark blacks and vivid colours, on a range of surfaces.

“We see a great opportunity both globally as well as locally in the UK with the new HP PageWide XL technology.”

On cost, Sharp said: “HP sell through a network of authorised resellers who are happy to build a specific proposal for customers depending on their specific needs."

Installed as standard with two-roll capacity, the machine has auto-switching and can expand to four rolls, with maximum 1m roll width and maximum 200m roll length, at thicknesses of between 70gsm and 200gsm.

It can be purchased with HP’s SmartStream workflow software and has a range of additional finishing options, including a high-capacity stacker, top stacker and folders, along with extra drawers to increase unattended printing capacity.

HP says it can achieve up to 30% savings in total production costs and can print monochrome and colour technical documents at a lower comparable cost to LED printers, along with making savings of up to five times lower energy consumption.

Sharp added: “More and more businesses are realising the benefits of large-format colour printing. As well as saving money – and avoiding errors – fast, high quality large format colour printing also creates new opportunities for businesses.

Earlier this year, HP launched its entry-level PageWide Web Press T235 HD, having unveiled four more of the 2015-launched presses at last year’s Graph Expo, Florida.
