Cepac will install the machine, which will be supplied by Lamina's UK sales agent Finishline Machinery alongside a WS 2016 work station, by the end of the year. 

The kit spend follows the recent completion of a £1m extension at Doncaster. The extension doubled the site's capacity to 4,000sqm to accommodate extra digital work following the installation of an HP Scitex 17000 corrugated press. Work on the site, which specialises in POS and display, finished around three weeks ago.

Sales director Steve Moss said: “This [the Lamina spend] is directly linked to our expansion of the Doncaster site, it improves our gluing capacity and capability, simple as that, and it’s directly linked to the building extension."

Intended for automated short-run packaging and POS display, the 2.2m-wide Lamina can run at speeds of up to 40m/min. Handling various sizes of material, it has a dual line option and a manual feeder, with tool free setup.

“It improves flexibility, because it has a very wide capability, and it has the ability to change over between styles very rapidly, going from one type of glue to another in a very short time period,” added Moss.

“It allows us that increase in efficiency and increases the offering, so it’s a good machine from that point of view.”

More investment is now planned at the site in 2018, including the installation of a beta version of the new PageWide C500 Press.

Moss said: “There are various options for 2018 that we are looking at and it does depend on growth experienced in the business, which is subject to review dependent on growth in two areas, both POS and display, which is the core of what we do in Doncaster, but also packaging."

It’s been a busy period for 500-staff Cepac, which has four other sites, with its subsidiary Woodhill Printers recently relocating to its expanded Rawcliffe Bridge site following a £2m investment. Along with its Doncaster and Rawcliffe sites, the £90m-turnover outfit, part of the HSA Group, has additional sites in Darlington and Rotherham.
