Cascade chooses Konica

Central London-based print and design specialist Cascade Group has installed a Konica Minolta bizhub Press C1085.

The £50,000 bizhub was installed in one of Cascade’s two main Southwark production units in October. Cascade is likely to purchase a second bizhub in Q1 2017.

Cascade production director Richard Adler said the Bizhub had replaced a four-year-old digital press from another manufacturer that had proven to be unreliable with frequent breakdowns.

The new four-colour press runs at a slightly slower speed than the old one (85ppm) but it joins a pre-existing mono bizhub, which Adler said had been reliable so far .

“Outright speed wasn’t the most important thing, but we had some previous stuff from Konica, predominantly in black-and-white, so we had a meeting with them, went to see what they had and the deal was done," he said.

“Quality is excellent, a step-up from before. Technology has moved on in the last five years and this machine is fairly robust and the manufacturer’s reputation is very good. They’ve worked really hard on it, calling once a week to see how it’s going.”

The four-colour digital press can handle stock thicknesses from 55gsm to 350gsm. It prints sheet sizes up to SRA3 at a maximum resolution of 1,200x3,600dpi.

The spend represents a continuation of Cascade’s growth plans, which have seen it recently open a fourth sales office and design studio in central London, and put plans in place to open another next year.

The vast majority (around 90%) of its customers are based in central London, and it takes jobs from the likes of government agencies, law firms and design agencies.

Along with the two Konicas, it runs a number of Xerox 700 machines, an HP Indigo 5600, a two-colour Heidelberg Printmaster and an HP Latex large-format machine.

The £2.8m-turnover outfit employs 27 staff.
