Star product: XCP Pressguard

Scottish-firm Marott Graphic Services has launched a protection fluid aimed directly at the printing industry.

XCP Pressguard is designed to shield the metal surfaces of printing presses. Supplied by Ultrachem, the
preventative liquid can be used on all parts of the press from cylinders and plate clamps to bearers and side frames. It is formulated to protect metals including steel, grey cast iron, copper, brass and nickel. The product does not affect print runs or quality.

The liquid is free of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) and can be applied directly onto the machinery. Marott Graphic Services suggests that an even coating is applied to metal surfaces requiring protection on a weekly basis. This will leave a protective adsorbed film on the area, which will guard against corrosion.

The firm claims that using XCP Pressguard as part of a regular, ongoing press maintenance programme will increase the reliability of the equipment by reducing the need for repairs and replacements.

So far, XCP Pressguard has been tested using Fogra test methods. In addition, it has been approved by German-based firm MPA Darmstadt, an independent testing institute for corrosion. KBA has also written the product into the operational manuals for its presses.

XCP Pressguard is available in 1-litre, 25-litre and 200-litre containers. It is priced per litre so costs do drop when buying in bulk.
