Star product: Solvoprint wallpaper

Solvoprint, a heavy-duty, scratch-resistant paper, is suitable for all solvent-based and UV-curable inks, and its special PVC coating gives brilliant colours and a high-definition print. Colours, patterns, text and images can all be printed directly onto it and, because its slightly stippled rather than completely smooth, it has a bright, interesting texture.

Solvoprint is applied to interiors with a paste, like standard ready-printed wallpaper, but has the advantage of a solvent printable surface. Manufacturer Neschen UK’s managing director Chris Slater admits: “Initially, some wallpaper hangers objected to having to hang paper that was 130cm wide, but the application is relatively easy. A heavyweight product is easier to hang.” Matching Solvoprint with a Solvite paper means it is B1 fire-safety certified, making it particularly useful for high-traffic areas, such as underground stations.

Neschen UK launched Solvoprint in 2007, expecting it to be a passing fad. But that hasn’t been the case – far from it. Sales started well and show no signs of abating, a sign perhaps of the growing tendency of organisations to ‘individualise’ their surroundings with images of their own choice.

Slater says that while Neschen UK was not the first to launch a printable wallpaper, he is proud that it is able to offer “a very good price for a very high-quality product”.
