Lake Image Systems IntegraVision

Rob Nicholls, managing director at Plastic Card Services, says the speed of the IntegraVision ensures verification is a breeze, discovers Philip Chadwick

What is it?
Lake Image Systems' IntegraVision is attached to our Kirk Rudy pick-and-place device with a RoboMelt hot glue system and plow fold.

What does it do?
IntegraVision verifies that personalised plastic cards are matched to the right personalised stationery for mailing. It's used on jobs for membership and loyalty cards. If there is a mis-match or sequence failure, it alerts the operator and they can take the appropriate action.

Why did you choose this product?
We chose Lake Image Systems because it is recognised as an industry standard and we wanted the security of using proven technology.

Did you look at any other similar devices?
We did look at some other manufacturers' devices, but didn't take it far because the others were more expensive and needed engineering to suit our application. Lake Image Systems was a perfect match for our requirements.

Why did you make the purchase?
When we were using mag stripe checking we were missing out on some lucrative, high-volume work. IntegraVision has speeded up our operations hugely, giving us better capacity and increasing our turnover of jobs.

What features do you particularly like?
Our operators love the fact that it can read both sides of a card before it's attached, which obviously gives us greater flexibility and makes jobs faster and smoother. Also, its interchangeable light sources mean that all jobs just breeze through. In the last one-and-a-half years it hasn't had trouble reading anything we've thrown at it.

How fast is it?
Very fast - in fact, it's only limited by the Kirk Rudy's speed.

What's the quality like?
We can't fault the quality of the cameras, software or terminal in any way.

How easy is it to use?
It basically runs itself and minimal training is required. This is another benefit as we can be flexible with moving operators around to different jobs.

How much time or money has it saved?
Some jobs that could previously have taken a week are now completed within a day. It's hard to quantify money saved;
it's more relevant to look at how much extra revenue it has brought to us over the past 18 months, which has
been significant.

Would you say it offers value for money?
Absolutely.

Has it won you any new work?
It's difficult to detail specific work as so much of our work is for third parties whose details are protected under non-disclosure contracts. It has, however, opened up a whole array of opportunities with the speed and accuracy it offers, especially to high-value contracts, corporate customers and government work.

Who do you think the machine is right for?
We'd recommend IntegraVision for anyone needing a high degree of accuracy checking and verification.

Under what circumstances would you buy another?
We are likely to buy another one as soon as business expansion prompts it - we wouldn't even consider looking at another vendor.

Supplier’s response
Lake Image Systems UK sales manager Pete Sirett says: We were recommended to Plastic Card Services (PCS) when they were looking for an integrity system to match plastic card to carriers. The Lake Image MaxRead integrated camera unit was specifically chosen to fit the technical and size constraints and commercial needs of the pick-and-place unit at PCS. All companies in the print and mail sector that match cards to carriers or documents on an inserter, or as part of a collation routine during a finishing process, would benefit from our MultiScan Matching tool.
