The 64-inch (1.63m) eco-solvent inkjet printer/cutter will serve as the new flagship model in the manufacturer’s TrueVis series.
“The new XG-640 is our fastest printer/cutter ever, combining the overwhelming high image quality and versatile expressive power of the TrueVis series with our pioneering print/cut technology,” said Ryugo Nimura, president, global sales and marketing division at Roland DG.
“It not only creates eye-catching sign graphics, but also enables the seamless, automated production of a wide variety of uniquely shaped applications, including stickers, labels, and apparel decorations. It provides your business with increased efficiency and a strong competitive edge.”
The XG-640 uses newly designed dual staggered printheads that eject finer ink droplets at higher densities.
The new high-speed data control technology is said to maximise performance, achieving productivity of 15.2sqm/hr in standard mode for eight-colour PVC and 22.5sqm/hr in standard mode for four-colour PVC.
The XG-640 uses new GBL-free TR3 ink to deliver rich, vivid colour in a wide colour gamut, with a choice of ink configurations up to eight colours.
White ink printing is three times faster and 1.3 times denser than the TrueVis VG3, which Roland DG said delivered “excellent opacity” for window graphics and base coats.
The device features the True Rich Color print setting that Roland DG said optimises its potential to create realistic graphics that combine vivid colours with neutral greys, smooth gradations, and natural skin tones.
Roland DG said users could now quickly select their ideal colour setting, including more vivid colour, deeper colour, or softer colour, depending on the desired output.
The XG-640 features various productivity features for efficient, high-quality output, including automatic media setup and take-up systems to ensure fast and stable throughput, a seven-inch colour LCD touchscreen control panel, automated pinch rollers, perforated sheet cutting, a media gap adjustment function, and self-maintenance features.
Roland DG’s latest RIP software, VersaWorks 7, is also included and, according to the manufacturer, has “greatly enhanced processing capacity, an enhanced user interface and is now compatible with macOS as well as Windows”.
In addition, the XG-640 is compatible with Roland DG Connect, a platform that enables users to streamline their workflow, manage print operation, and grow their business.
Nimura added: “The XG-640 is a printer that not only delivers outstanding print and cut output, but also offers superb productivity, efficient and user-friendly operation, maximum versatility and high profitability for owners, making it ideal for sign and graphics professionals.
“It is especially suitable for users who require quick turnaround for a wide variety of output.”
