Ricoh has revealed it will launch a brand-new direct-to-film (DTF) machine at March’s Fespa Global Print Expo.

Using a new and purpose-built DTF inkset, the machine will likewise feature a new powder shaker: altogether, Ricoh claimed, the printer will represent “the lowest total cost of ownership [TCO] in the market coupled with unprecedented speed”.

The manufacturer will also show off a new hybrid machine, the product of its collaboration with Chinese wide-format manufacturer Flora.

Also on display at Fespa for the first time will be Ricoh’s TF6251 UV flatbed printer, its Ri4000 direct-to-garment (DTG) printer for polyester fabrics and the firm’s Ri cotton and cotton-blend 1000X DTG printer.

Sander Sondaal, Ricoh’s graphic communications group lead for commercial print sales, said: “We anticipate a lot of interest from operations investigating ways they can continue their analogue to digital transition and support their clients more responsively.

“We are excited to help them co-create successful futures with highly versatile solutions that drive innovation, production versatility and expand application possibilities.”

The Japanese manufacturer will also show live demonstrations of its roll-to-roll Pro Latex L5160e extended-gamut printer and Pro TF6251 in standard print applications.

Separately, Ricoh has also recently appointed a new strategic acccount director for its high-speed inkjet business, with Simon Wheeler to succeed Patrick Neininger at the end of March 2024.

Neininger will now retire after 14 years with Ricoh.

Wheeler has 25 years’ experience in the print sector with firms such as HP, Canon, and Océ, and has experience working across several continents.

Wheeler said he was thrilled to join the team: “Having encountered Ricoh in many competitive scenarios throughout my career, I have always been impressed by the conduct and professionalism of the team. I’m looking forward to working with my new colleagues, and I hope to help them discover new practices, innovate, and encourage new perspectives.”

Tim Carter, commercial print director at Ricoh UK Graphic Communications, commented on the appointment: ”I’d like to thank Patrick on behalf of everyone at Ricoh for his dedication and success, and wish him a very happy retirement.

“We look forward to welcoming Simon and the wealth of knowledge and experience he will bring to the team. Simon’s expertise will be instrumental in delivering our ambitious growth strategy.”
