Morgana is debuting the new DigiFold Ultra creasing/folding machine with full bleed trim capabilities at Drupa.

The device can slit, cut, crease, perforate, and fold in one pass. It is designed to complement mid-to-high volume digital and offset production presses.

The machine builds on the capabilities of the DigiFold Pro XL – which will also remain available – by adding the slitting and cutting functionality for full-bleed trim applications.

Morgana said high quality applications such as full-bleed six- or eight-panel brochures are made more simple using the DigiFold Ultra, even for A4 landscape finished formats.

The Ultra can trim sheets of up to 1,300mm and the standard device comes with dual folding knives, one DynaCrease – enabling up and down crease in a single pass, two slitting knives, and one cross-cut knife.

The device maintains the productivity seen on the previous generation Pro XL platforms of up to 6,000 A4 sheets per hour. There are also attachments such as the Trim Waste Conveyor Belt and BST-4000 Belt Stacker, which make the Ultra suited to longer unattended production runs.

Ray Hillhouse, VP sales and marketing for the Plockmatic Group Offline Business Unit, said: “Adding trimming and cutting capabilities means that we can automate even more stages in the production of the finished product.

“Helping to reduce the number of manual steps required in the print shop means less room for error. This is an affordable, robust, high-speed solution for businesses looking to reduce operator involvement and instead focus on activities that drive profitability and growth.”

Features of the DigiFold Ultra include the ability to save job settings for quick and easy production, a loading capacity up to 200mm, and ultrasonic double sheet detection.

The machine also utilises Plockmatic Group’s vacuum feed capability, while Adaptive Fan Control automatically adjusts air flow for varying media sizes and weights.

Up to 30 creases per sheet are possible, avoiding image cracking or toner flaking on heavier media, and full cross perforation is available, plus up to five inline perforation/scoring wheels.

The device is equipped with both a belt-stacker for folded sheets, and a delivery tray for non-folded jobs, while an easy blade system allows for quick changes of blades without the need for any tools. Changing between different tools and blades can be done in under a minute.

The DigiFold Ultra will be available to order on Morgana’s Drupa stand at Messe Düsseldorf from 28 May to 7 June, and deliveries are due to begin in June. Pricing has not yet been indicated.

Morgana Systems is a wholly owned subsidiary of Plockmatic International, part of the Plockmatic Group which is celebrating 50 years in business this year. Watkiss and Intec are also owned by Plockmatic.
