Durst Group has unveiled its expanded P5 portfolio, including a new ‘ultra-fast’ printer and robotics, at the Fespa Global Print Expo in Munich.

The manufacturer’s existing P5 350 HS has been joined by the new P5 350 HSR, a faster counterpart for roll-to-roll applications.

The 3.5m LED roll-to-roll printer achieves print speeds of up to 670sqm/hr and can be equipped with an optional master roll that can feed rolls weighing up to 1,000kg and 635mm in diameter, enabling long production cycles without interruption. The system can also be equipped as D4 with double CMYK.

For printing mesh and perforated material, the P5 350 HSR offers ink dust-free processing with the integrated Mesh Printing System.

Exhibiting on stand A2-A10 at Fespa, Durst said the machine also enables easy and fast material changeover, which can be accomplished by a single operator, while efficiency can be further increased via optional vertical and horizontal cutting units, which operate in parallel with the printing process.

The manufacturer has also introduced P5 Robotics for flexible and continuous production cycles with long run times. At the heart of this is the P5 350 HS D4 hybrid printing system, whose feeder/stacker unit is formed by two Kuka robots to handle the unmanned production of a complete shift.

The robots, modified and programmed by Durst, can pick up media from different pallets with a height of up to 1.8m, feed them and stack them again separately. In the process, the printed media can also be turned 180° for reverse-side printing and fed into a second printing system.

Durst unveiled its new launches, which are all commercially available immediately, under the motto ‘360° Production Excellence’, which it said refers to its evolution “from a pure press manufacturer to a systems provider that combines all aspects of digital production such as automation, flexibility, speed, software, services and sustainability”.

Durst Group CEO and co-owner Christoph Gamper said: “Digital large-format printing is the core competence of the Durst Group and our success with our P5 printing systems illustrates this.

“This year, we have expanded our P5 portfolio by 360° and aligned it with current market requirements. We are convinced that our solutions will help our customers to sustainably increase profitability through efficiency and state-of-the-art production technology.”

Meanwhile, Vanguard Europe, which has been owned by Durst since 2020, has also unveiled new technology, the VK3220T-HS next-generation UV flatbed printer.

Fespa marks the first public showing of the machine, which the company said has a new compact, user-friendly product design – following a collaboration with Zanzotti Industrial Design – that brings a more intuitive, ergonomic, and optimised experience for machine operators.

A 3.2x2m flatbed that runs at up to 360sqm/hr, the VK3220T-HS uses up to three rows of 4pl drop size Kyocera printheads at up to 1,800dpi print resolution.

Commercially available now, the system features new software, while the total amount of printheads are said to allow greater modularity and flexibility for special applications.
