B&W updates Versa-Tech cutter

Blackman & White (7-S15) is showing a new solution for laser-cutting textiles on its booth.

The UK manufacturer is showing a Versa-Tech cutting table running new Tiger software from its US-based partner MCT. The software has been specially designed for textile applications.

“There’s a lot of activity in textile printing, and this cutting solution has some very nice features for that market. We’re showing highly-accurate cutting of textiles in registration with the print,” said managing director Alex White.

The demonstration piece involves laser cutting a fine lattice structure to create a ‘pineapple bag’.

“When you’re cutting textiles the challenges include extraction of fumes and maintaining correct focal point on the surface,” White added.

Blackman & White has developed a patented layer made of an aluminium foil material that sits underneath the textile for this purpose.

It now has more than 100 installations of its Versa-Tech, which includes laser, router and knife options and can cut at 1,200mm/sec. A 1.6x3.2m machine costs around €100,000.

The firm is also running a competition during Fespa Digital whereby visitors to its stand can enter a prize draw to win a Parrot Quatrocopter AR Drone 2.0 Elite Edition.
