Who really wields the power in print?

Next week the PrintWeek team will start work in earnest on our annual Power 100, our ranking of the 100 most influential individuals in the industry.

And with the news that two of our regular top five contenders and former table toppers have exited the businesses they headed, then it’s inevitable that this year’s ranking will have a different shape to previous years, with plenty of fresh faces.

While Matt Armitage will fill Patrick Martell’s spot, with the latter leaving St Ives to head up Informa’s £350m-turnover Business Intelligence division, it’s slightly less clear who will replace Steve Nunn after he exited Williams Lea to unknown, at this stage at least, pastures new.

However, what is clear is that while Global MP’s Kevin Dunstall could have been a contender for securing a coveted new entry slot, the acrimonious collapse of the business less than a year after he acquired it from St Ives has scuppered his chances. Although, to be fair, that’s probably the least of his worries.

Fortunately, though, there are plenty of others in the industry deserving of a place in our ranking and for all the right reasons.

We will be launching the Power 100 voting soon and that’s your chance to have a say in who are the biggest movers and shakers in the industry.

So keep an eye on printweek.com for when the poll goes live, and when you vote remember it’s not a popularity contest, its about who really wields the power in print. Because as Dunstall proved in his final few weeks at Global MP, you don’t have to be popular to have power.
