The new edition enables users to export to the EPUB format for electronic books as well as many other formats.
The system uses the Acrobat Pro preflight engine to prepare documents but also adds other workflow automation tools such as batch delivery, variable file names, automatic link updating and file delivery with email notification.
The EPUB format has become the industry standard for book digitisation and is supported on the iPad and Sony's Reader devices, as well as those from Barnes & Noble. Amazon's Kindle uses a proprietary .azw format.
Which? head of contents production Mike Agate said: "BatchOutput has been the single biggest time-saver I've encountered in 10 years of print production. It easily saves hours a week, producing bulletproof output, over and over. With the reduction in headcount and efficiency savings it must have paid for itself 500 times over."
As well as EPUB, the software also exports to PDF, PostScript, EPS, Flash, INX, IDML and more and is available in both client and server versions. It is available as a free update to existing v3 users or can be bought from the Zevrix website or its resellers.
