Wallpaper* enters new decade with AR cover

IPC's design and fashion magazine Wallpaper* is using augmented reality (AR) to enhance its cover, along with a 10-page feature in its January issue.

AR technology works by holding the magazine up to a webcam connected to a computer, which then launches 3D interactive elements that sit and move on the same plane as the magazine.

The cover features an image of graduate designer Jørund Blikstad’s Wall Cubes shelving, which is transformed into 3D with AR, while the 11-page feature on future trends includes video and animation elements.

Wallpaper* editor-in-chief Tony Chambers said: "This issue of Wallpaper* is all about the top trends and technologies for 2010, so we couldn’t resist having some fun with the mind-bending, pixel-popping, multimedia minefield that is augmented reality."
