Vutek buy to drive JollyBig turnover increase

JollyBig hopes to increase its turnover by a quarter after investing in a Vutek QS2000 hybrid flatbed and roll-to-roll printer to meet the increasing day-to-day demand for its large-format display products.

JollyBig was formed as the large-format division of the BCQ Group to serve the growing market for large-format print and display materials and to complement group's core commercial print offering.

General manager David Rogers said: “We discussed our growth ambitions with CMYUK, which identified the right machine and arranged test prints, installation and user training.

“We went for the Vutek QS2000 because it’s a quicker and wider machine that will complement our existing Fuji Acuity flatbed. The kit will act as our day-to-day production machine.”

12-staff JollyBig installed the used Vutek at its Milton Keynes site in December and uses it for POS, exhibition and interior graphics, indoor and outdoor banners, wallpaper and cardboard Re-board furniture.

Rogers said the four-year-old Vutek had been used for only one month in its working life.

The Vutek is in addition to its hybrid flatebed, a Fuji Acuity, and two Mimaki JV 330s, three HP 6200s and a HP Latex 370.

“We've had the Fuji Acuity for about 18 months and needed something quicker and bigger and the Vutek was perfect – about three times quicker. It will allow us to take on far more POS work.”

“The Vutek QS2000 has increased our capacity and we can also now produce work at a larger size and at quicker speeds. It has made us more cost effective and given us the opportunity to attract more retail-based POS work that previously we may have lost out on.

“We will be printing on a number of different media including paper, foam PVC, acrylics, PVC bannergrade, Re-board, ACM plus many more. Pretty much any rigid media up to 50mm in thickness, and up to 2m wide.”

Rogers, who used to work for Augustus Martin, said: “We can increase business through existing clients from BCQ. However, we are keen to stand on our own two feet and actively get new clients. We'd like to add 25% to our turnover in the next 12 to 18 months.

“We are using the Vutek to test the water and hopefully we will go bigger with our next purchase, whenever that happens.”

CMYUK sales director Sarah Fenna added: “The Vutek QS2000 was the perfect solution to JollyBig's requirement for a fast but flexible wide-format printer.

“It offers roll-to-roll and flatbed, high-definition direct-to-media printing with six-colour imaging plus white, with resolutions up to 1080 dpi.

“It has also increased the size of media JollyBig can work with direct, enabling the company to expand its range of products.”
