UK paper converter develops eco-friendly in-store signage

Blackburn-based BCP Fluted Packaging claims its new biodegradable POP display board will revolutionise the in-store signage sector.

BCP developed Ditto Formcore as an alternative to existing PS and PU foam, corrugated and solid display boards. The new product consists of two embossed layers formed symmetrically and laminated to coated board.

The firm claims that Ditto’s open, multi-directional structure means it is more reliable as permanent signage, than existing foam, corrugated or solid display products as it does not warp after printing or contact with humidity.

The board is suitable for screen or digital applications and, as well being developed as litho-laminated displays, BCP is offering alternative liners such as patterned or holographic film and foil. According to the firm the displays can be guillotined, die-cut or creased with no special tooling or techniques.

BCP's owner and chairman Brian Jones said it was a breakthrough for the retail in-store signage sector.

He added: "The range of substrates currently available is considerable, but there are simply too many performance and environmental compromises that the retailer has to make - which is why we have developed Ditto.

"PS and PU foam boards are being used less and less these days because of their environmental impact but the fact that they still command significant market share is a clear indication that no all-round single paper based solution has been available until now."
