The New York-based publishing house began live production in October with a new production workflow for its weekly titles Time, People, Sports Illustrated and Entertainment Weekly.
Seven print sites belonging RR Donnelley, Quad Graphics, Quebecor World and Brown Printing began softproofing two signatures for each magazine in October.
Kin Wah Lam, Time Inc digital development director, told a US publishing forum that the four titles will move to full soft-proofing this month.
He said the move meant that more than 85,000 hard-copy ad proofs would no longer need to be shipped to the magazines' print sites.
At present, he said, the four titles received an average of 1,620 ad proofs per week, which were all transported to the relevant printers.
Lam added that the KPG and ICS virtual proofing kit installed at the seven sites had given more consistent print quality because it eliminated inconsistencies between different proof substrates and maximised the use of on-press colour controls.
