Povey joins Thomas Potts from medical engineering group Huntleigh Technology, where he had been group financial controller since 1996.
The appointment comes a week after Mark Scanlon stepped up to the role of chief executive from group commercial director (PrintWeek, 7 June).
Scanlon said last November Slater had indicated he was looking to take things easier, and since then the group had been looking for a suitable replacement.
Slater will now step into the role of financial director at London-based litho printer Premier Metropolis, part of the Thomas Potts group.
This latest appointment is seen as part of the groups transition from a traditional printing company into a print services group.
