The plan is a further step in freeing up capital to allow the group to focus on its core activities of pulp, paper, packaging and forest products.
This latest move follows the companys forestlands restructure in Finland and the USA, amounting to some 730,000 hectares, which was announced in May last year (PrintWeek, 24 May).
Stora Enso will team up with Swedish forest industry group Korsns to form a new company called Bergvik Skog. The Swedish forests of both companies will then transfer to Bergvik Skog, which will have an enterprise value of 1.4bn (SEK18bn), and a turnover of 148m.
Stora Ensos forestlands provide about 30% of the Finnish/Swedish manufacturers wood supply in Sweden.
