Gecko is a solvent-based ink suitable for lamination and film production, it has been sold in Europe by parent company Huber Group since its Drupa launch.
"This is a long term investment for us," said Stehlin Hostag UK joint managing director David Ward. "It won't be the cheapest ink but we don't intend to just sell on price. We will promote our technical ability, quality and service as well."
The firm plans to open the service centre at one of two possible sites between Leeds and its headquarters in Nottingham. Ward expected the centre to employ 13 new staff including up to four technical sales people.
"We are still very committed to commercial offset, but with this product in our group it makes sense to exploit its potential," said Ward.
"UV flexo is something that we will look at in the future. Our UV plant in Switzerland has seen remarkable success in the offset packaging field," continued Ward.
