Standard Finishing installs Hunkeler and Horizon kit following short-run surge

Thanks in part of a surge in short-run printing, Andover, MA-based post-press and paper handling equipment reseller Standard Finishing Systems this week announced several new installs of Hunkeler and Horizon solutions for the print-on-demand markets.

Pinnacle Data Systems said it recently a Hunkeler roll-to-stack system with chip-out and slit/merge capability to their Atlanta, Georgia location, producing full-bleed, interstacked output for 1-up printing of multiple pages, at speeds up to 500fpm. In Pinnacle's Birmingham, Alabama facility a new Standard Horizon SPF-200A Bookletmaker, equipped with a high-speed offline sheet-feeder for digitally collated sets and the VIVA inspection system for document integrity and verification.

NABS Bindery Service in Waltham, MA has expanded its short-run finishing capabilities with the addition of a Horizon BQ-270C automated perfect binder. The BQ-270C features a compact configuration, color touch-screen control, and a digital caliper that measures and conveys the book block thickness data to the binder for fully automated set-up.

"With the trend of shorter print runs automation has become increasingly important to customers as they need to be able to changeover from job to job as quickly as possible in order to keep costs under control," Don Dubuque, senior marketing manager at Standard Finishing Systems told PrintWeek. "Printers who have invested in the right technology and binding equipment seem to be reaping the greatest benefits of the short run book market we are now seeing."
