Sport magazine closes after publisher falls into administration

Weekly free commuter magazine Sport has ceased publication after its French parent company Sport Media & Strategy went into administration.

More than 300,000 copies of the magazine were printed by St Ives each week and distributed  outside tube and train stations across London.

St Ives only took over the printing from Quebecor World last February after its Corby site was closed.

The last edition of the publication came out on 3 April and it contained a message informing readers that there would be no Good Friday edition but that it would return the following week.

It is understood that a buyer for the UK version, which employs 24  staff, is being sought.

Greg Miall, managing director at Sport, has not given up on the possibility of the title returning. He told The Guardian newspaper that Sport was suspending publication for a rethink of its business model and to look for further investment.

St Ives declined to comment.
