At last year’s Drupa show the two firms announced “a new chapter of collaboration” with Cimpress described as “actively contributing to the development” of the HP Indigo 120K B2 sheetfed digital press that was part of HP’s showcase in Düsseldorf.
Cimpress has been a user of HP technology for more than 20 years, and is the manufacturer’s biggest customer worldwide.
The fresh agreement will involve the installation of at least 10 – and up to 20 – HP Indigo 120K and 18K digital presses during this year and next, across Cimpress’ global manufacturing platform.
Cimpress founder, chairman and CEO Robert Keane said that being at the forefront of technology was part of the group’s commitment to delivering “market-leading customer value”.
“Our decision to install these HP Indigo presses – following our discussions at Drupa in 2024 – reflects our confidence in HP’s cutting-edge technology and its ability to enhance our efficiency and expand our product and service offerings,” Keane said.
“We are proud to continue our collaboration with HP, pushing the boundaries of what’s possible in digital print innovation to meet the evolving needs of our customers.”
The HP Indigo 120K prints at 4,500sph simplex, 2,2250sph duplex, or 6,000sph in three-colour EPM mode. It includes AI automation tools for quality control and predictive maintenance.
It can produce more than two million B2 sheets per month.
The 18K model prints at 3,450sph simplex, 1,725sph duplex, or 4,600sph in EPM mode. It has seven ink stations for IndiChrome Plus seven-colour extended gamut printing, and a range of optional special colours. It also handles a broader range of substrates.
HP senior vice president and Industrial Print division president Haim Levit said Cimpress would be able to achieve “nonstop digital printing” with the 120K.
He said: “In a market where speed, flexibility, and exceptional quality are driving customer demands, we are delighted to partner with Cimpress as they install the HP Indigo 120K presses to deliver nonstop digital printing.
“By investing in cutting-edge digital print technology, they are positioning themselves for scalability, profitability, and long-term success. We’re excited to be on this journey with them as they transform from analog to digital.”
The amount of investment involved was not disclosed. Presses will be installed in Europe, North America and Australia.
Cimpress operates multiple production sites around the world, including the Vista ‘supersite’ facilities at Windsor in Ontario, Canada serving North America; and at Venlo in the Netherlands.
Its Tradeprint operation in the UK is based in Dundee.
Cimpress filed record results in its most recent financial year, to 30 June 2024, with sales up 7% to $3.29bn (£2.5bn), and operating profit up from $57.3m to $247.3m.
Earlier this month the group withdrew its guidance for this year because of uncertainty around the outcome of President Trump’s tariffs, which could impact customer demand.
