SPM Print brings binding in-house with Valore line

Digital and litho printer SPM Print has brought its saddlestitching in-house, purchasing a second-hand Muller Martini Valore line.

The £50,000 six-station line from refurbished kit supplier Nyland Graphics was installed at the Rotherhithe-based company earlier this month.

Operations director Mark Sayers said that the company handled a lot of annual report work and the Valore would be used to finish these.

He said: "We probably should have done this a long time ago. This will help with turnaround time, allowing us to better offer next day delivery. We have total control and we can also reduce our carbon footprint because we were making seven or eight trips a week to the binder – we will probably save 2,000 miles a year."

SPM Print's binding line was no easy install - finishing manager Tony Puxty had to remove a wall to fit the machine in. But Sayers said that the company is doing binding work every day of the week, so it was a "no brainer" to meet these challenges.

The company handles work from a range of customers including universities, law firms and the NHS. It employs 21 staff and has a turnover of around £2.5m.
