Chester University print department brings folding work in-house

Chester University's in-house print department has bought a Eurofold 445 from distributor The Finishing Point, allowing it to keep nearly all of its work in-house.

The department, which prints predominantly for the university, is now able to move a six-fold concertina job, which it had previously outsourced, in-house.

Last month, it installed the Eurofold 445 SM CAF, with a 435SM CAF Crossfold unit, and as well as being able to handle the "tricky" concertina job, it is now able to do crossfold for the first time.

With the exception of prospectuses, that are too large in volume for the department to take on, the four-staff department does everything itself, as well as some out-work.

Print manager Simon Downes said: "It is mind-blowing when you see the crossfold at work. We had some leaflets that were A3 folded to A5 and we couldn't do those before. We are now a very independent unit."

"I also have to mention The Finishing Point – they are a local distributor, based in Warrington. It is good to deal with local companies that are so reliable."

Eurofold machines are distributed in the UK by finishing equipment manufacturer Duplo.
