Smurfit Kappa News makes major Manroland investment

A News International contract printer in Ireland has announced a huge investment in Manroland kit.

Smurfit Kappa News Press has ordered a six-tower Colorman XXL and two 4:7:7 folders.

According to Manroland, the machine will be Ireland's "fastest and first triple-width newspaper printing press".

The machine is equipped with the materials logistics system Aurosys and with the networking software Printnet. It is expected to go into production in spring next year.

Although traditionally a packaging printer, Smurfit prints for News International and Associated Newspapers.

Tom Mooney, chief executive of Smurfit Kappa News Press Limited, said: "This press fulfils our highest expectations in terms of quality and production capability for full-colour newspaper production requirements.

"We are convinced that the Colorman XXL is superior to comparable printing systems. I would like to compliment Manroland for the excellent project management and the innovative technological solutions they have provided."
