Sigma adds sparkle to wedding albums with world's first metallic inkjet printer

An Irish photobook and wedding photographic services company has been revealed as the first business in the world to install Roland DG's revolutionary metallic inkjet machine.

Dublin-based Sigma Print & Media Group will use the XC-540MT to reproduce metallic effects for its book covers.

"With the XC-540MT we are able to bring a unique and emotive product to the marketplace," said chief executive Rory Kelly. "The ability to produce dynamic metallic colours and finishes will enable us to create high end and bespoke covers. We see becoming the first customer as the first step towards a lengthy and mutually beneficial business relationship."

"With the XC-540MT we are continuing to push the boundaries of technology to evolve with our customers' business needs," said Roland DG UK director of sales Martin Phillips.

Covers produced by the XC-540MT will be matched with book blocks produced on a high-volume digital colour press, which the firm is trialling at the moment. It plans to launch the wedding book service later this month, and the photobook service in January 2010.

Kelly saw and ordered the machine at the recent Sign & Digital Ireland show.
