Shirt Monkey relocates in expansion bid

Direct-to-garment (DTG) printer Shirt Monkey has relocated to a new premises to help accommodate continuous growth and kick off a further investment drive.

The Winsford, Cheshire-based outfit relocated around three weeks ago to a 930sqm premises around four times the size of the old one and approximately three miles away.

Shirt Monkey had its two Kornit Avalanche 1000 DTG machines moved across, one of which was installed late last year, and it is now looking to have a third installed by the end of this year if not sooner.

Director Nicholas Simons said: “We’re talking to new clients all the time and we need that space to grow into. The new place definitely has room for us to grow into over the next three or four years."

Simons added that the seven Shirt Monkey staff were all happy to move and that they were at the forefront of the decision to remain in the local area.

“The move went as well as we could have hoped and there was no downtime whatsoever, so from an operational point of view it went smoothly,” he added.

Founded in 2013, Shirt Monkey, which has relocated a number of times in its short history, was in its previous 232sqm premises with 100sqm mezzanine for the last two years, while the new premises has been taken on with a 10-year lease.

Simons puts much of the outfit’s growth down to the strength of its Kornit Avalanche machines.

“The way the market seems to be heading, especially with the Kornit machines, enables us to talk to clients who previously with some of our older machines would have been untouchable,” he added.

“As soon as clients are aware we’ve got a Kornit it definitely opens up opportunities and the growth is reflected in that.”

With the new premises move, Shirt Monkey is now aiming to almost double its £600,000 sales to £1m by the end of this year. It also runs a number of heat press and sewing machines.
