Secprint gains an edge with new Grafcut

Secprint has invested in a Grafcut 52H fully hydraulic guillotine to support its delivery of high quality digital security print.

The device, which was supplied by Terry Cooper Services (TCS), was installed just over a month ago and has replaced an ageing Polar guillotine.

It will enable the firm to enhance its production of vouchers, tickets and security papers on existing kit that includes a Xerox Color J75, a Ricoh Pro C651 and a Develop 1060.

Secprint general manager Brian Terry said: “We needed an upgrade as our main guillotine was causing intermittent problems and slowing down our production schedule and proving to be costly on service and maintenance.

“We did look at other guillotines but we decided the Grafcut 52H best suited our needs as we are strictly SRA3 printers and occasionally cut SRA2 stock to size.”

He added: “We bought a stitching machine from TCS several years ago so we knew they were a reputable and reliable company to do business with.”

The 52H has a maximum format of 520x520mm with a hydraulic drive for knife and clamp. It also features a light barrier, infrared cutting light beam and full programmability via a touchscreen.

“The flat-screen programme unit with the infrared light guards and cutting light plus the side tables are a must for any business, especially ours as we specialise in security ticket and voucher printing where accuracy is paramount,” said Terry.

While Terry did not reveal the cost of the investment, he said: “It’s a great guillotine at the right price, and when we decide to replace our other guillotine it will be another Grafcut 52H from TCS.

“With the hydraulic knife and clamping action, the 52H was the ideal solution as the price of comparable guillotines with a similar specification always seemed to be outside our price range.”

Secprint, which has 12 staff and a turnover of over £500,000, produces items including booklets, flyers and posters for clients predominantly operating in the sporting and entertainment sectors.
