Seal has high hopes for liquid laminator

Seal Graphics has unveiled the worlds first flatbed, liquid laminator, which is targeted at signmakers and outdoor-graphics firms.

The AqualSeal 72UV machine (pictured), which costs about 38,000, runs at up to 27m a minute. It coats prints and rigid materials up to 1.76m wide and 12.7mm thick.

"We are not aware of any other flatbed, liquid laminator," said a Seal spokesman. "It is an ideal companion to current-generation flatbed printers and for outdoor displays and vehicle graphics.

"The liquid formation is instantly cured when it passes under the inbuilt ultraviolet lamp and offers immediate protection to a variety of materials."

He added that these included output from ink-jet, electrostatic, photographic and dye-sublimation printers. The machine allows a second coat to be applied immediately to posters or banners intended for harsh locations.

Seal Graphics said users require no special training to operate the coater.
