Ritchie UK enters talks with staff over possible redundancies

A printer in Kilmarnock has entered into consultation with its staff over redundancies, with employees claiming they are to be let go because of a major contract leaving the UK.

Ritchie UK is expected to make seven staff redundant, with the consultation still ongoing.

According to Unite this is down to a downturn in work coming into the factory.

Norman King, Unite national officer, said: "Nobody is buying anything, people aren't spending and the need for print is reduced when that happens. We are working together with the company in this difficult time."

However, employees contacted the local newspaper, the Kilmarnock Standard, claiming that the reason for the redundancies was because they had lost out on a tender for the production of vehicle MoT certificates to a Hungarian competitor.

Ritchie UK was not available for comment.
