Potts Print (UK) bought Bakershaw Print, a smaller local rival, in a deal that the Northumberland-based commercial print, direct mail and packaging specialist intended would be the first of several strategic acquisitions in the next 12 to 18 months... Sequana, owner of Arjowiggins and Antalis, posted an 11% improvement in its first-half EBITDA despite difficult market conditions as it pressed ahead with its financial and operational restructuring... DST Output revealed details of a £4.9m technology spend, including a second Kodak Prosper 5000XL high-speed inkjet web press, as the group reported a return to operational profit in its latest results... Heidelberg announced a major shake-up of its post-press operations that would result in it exiting the saddlestitcher and perfect binding markets. Some 650 were lost worldwide, withtwo thirds of which were in Germany. “In-house production at the Heidelberg sites in Germany is no longer competitive under the new market conditions,” the company stated. Later in the month the manufacturer reported a "muted" start to the year, with a sharp drop in sales in Q1, although it almost halved its operating losses in the period... Global MP Mailing workers were still in a state of limbo, as the firm has still not been placed into liquidation by owner Kevin Dunstall, despite assurances from him that the firm would be placed into liquidation on 4 August... Trade and commercial printer RCS entered into a Company Voluntary Arrangement (CVA), securing around 70 jobs, after its creditors approved the proposal in a meeting on 6 August... First-half sales were up at KBA, which came close to breaking even in the period. Sales in the six months to 30 June were up 3.1% to €517.8m (£412m), and the press manufacturer posted an operating profit of €3.8m compared with last year’s €4.9m operating loss... Dennis Maps, the former BT&D Maps business, moved to a new site and acquired a new chairman: Ralph Bell, the former chief operating officer at book printer CPI Antony Rowe, has become executive chairman at the company... Polestar Applied Solutions invested in a Canon Océ ColorStream 3500 and four Canon Océ VarioStream 8650 continuous feed printers to boost capacity both for white paper solution printing and pre-printed form personalisation... Acquisitive packaging group Coveris bought its second UK firm in three months with a deal for £20m turnover Learoyd Packaging... The printing industry lost one of its keenest advocates when BPIF chief executive Kathy Woodward passed away on 21 August... Over 8,300 independent newsagents across the UK and Ireland were rebranded by News UK in a push to sell more printed copies of The Sun and The Times... North Yorkshire-based East Riding Sacks submitted an order for a new Bobst F&K 20SIX CS eight-colour CI flexo press to be installed early in 2015... De La Rue ended its six-month search for a new chief executive by appointing a BAE Systems cyber security chief Martin Sutherland...
