Printworks (North) installs Duplo to cover full-colour and long-run increase

Commercial printer Printworks (North) has installed a Duplo System 5000 bookletmaker after seeing demand for full-colour and longer-run work increase.

The Wetherby-based company, formed as a stationery printer in 1996, has upgraded its pre-press and press departments over the past 18 months and the System 5000 has been brought on board to complete its improvements, taking its spending to £400,000.

Sales and marketing manager Ben Johnson said: "We had a very basic finishing solution in house but we were mainly reliant on trade finishing, which while good in quality, would often hamper our speed of delivery and, of course, affected our bottom line quite significantly."

The machine has also brought added benefits, because the company is also working for other printers. He added: "We are actually being asked more and more now to finish for other local printers, which again is another incremental revenue stream."

Duplo’s System 5000 consists of three 10-station suction collating systems. It can run with up to six 10-station collator towers and can finish up to 5,000 A5 booklets an hour.

It can take sheets as small as 105x148mm, with an optional small booklet kit, and up to 350x500mm.
