The Witham, Essex-based sheetfed business installed the cutter to replace an 10-year-old Wohlenberg guillotine at its 1,200sqm premises in November.
The circa £40,000 machine has been integrated into a workflow that includes a variety of presses and other finishing systems. It was supplied by Friedheim International.
“We make a point across our production portfolio to have two of everything, but we didn’t have two guillotines,” said Printwize chairman Roger Wacey. “That means when the guillotine goes out, the whole company is out.
“Friedheim has supplied us with equipment before and we have been happy. Baumann has made a very reliable machine, which was important to us. It was not the cheapest but it is worth it for the benefits – it can take on the increasingly complex cutting jobs that our clients in the marketing sectors are requesting from us.
“Having the reliability of the new guillotine means we can take these jobs on with confidence."
The 115, named for its cutting depth in cm, features clamping pressures from 350-4,500daN. It boasts quick knife-exchange, a low-maintenance electromagnetic clutch and a 2m/sec, servo-driven backgauge drive.
Printwize’s turns over £2.7m and has a workforce of 28. It runs a wide portfolio of equipment, including two B1 Mitsubishi presses, digital presses and finishing kit. Both Mitsubishis are set to be upgraded this year, with one set to be converted to UV.
