Xeikon launched a new high-speed mono printer at Print 01 and announced that its colour sheetfed machine, the CSP 320 D, was now back on track.
The DMP 8000 comes in three speeds: 196, 147 and 98 feet per minute at 600dpi. It has a print width of 18.5in and features a new version of the Intellistream front-end for mono printers.
Now we have identical workflows for colour and black and white which is ideal for mixed workflows and applications, said Dirk Van Thillo, director, industry business units.
Shipments of the CSP had been halted due to reliability issues but have now recommenced. The fine tuning process we started on is now complete. We are confident it will live up to customer expectations, said executive chairman Gino Despeghel.
The problems with the CSP contributed to the recent financial woes of Xeikon, which announced net losses of 7.3m on revenue down 29% to 24.3m in the second quarter (PrintWeek, 3 August). It also experienced a collapse in OEM orders, particularly from Xerox.
But Despeghel insisted Print 01 would be a turning point for Xeikon. He added that the entry into the digital market of Heidelberg and Hewlett-Packard, via its Indigo acquisition, was positive.
