Polestar has bucked the trend of high-profile print jobs heading for the continent and landed the contract for The National Magazine Companys Prima magazine.
Polestar Watmoughs in Bradford will print 600,000 copies of the title on its short cutoff Harris M600, and the magazine will be produced CTP.
The two-year contract marks the return of Prima to the UK after being printed gravure at Gruner & Jahr in Germany. The contract starts from the October issue.
NatMags group manufacturing director Alice Symonds said quality had to be "the first consideration" for the groups titles.
She said printing with Polestar offered "greater flexibility on both scheduling and manufacturing", allowing more time to sell advertising space and greater capacity for inserts.
"We look for a printer with the right equipment, a good track record and excellent quality, coupled with a proactive can do attitude and positive approach to R&D for our future needs," she added.
Symonds also praised Polestars attitude last month when she revealed that its Chantry site would print CosmoGirl, which launches in the autumn (PrintWeek, 27 April).
Polestar Magazines & Catalogues sector key account director Alan Outlaw said: "Having witnessed contracts placed in Europe, we are pleased to be winning some of the work back."
Despite the strong pound causing problems for UK printers competing against continental rivals, a NatMags spokeswoman said Polestars tender for the contract had been competitive.
Prima is targeted at women aged between 25 and 45. It had an ABC circulation of 395,164 from July to December 2000.
