Preston council buys in Horizon B2 folder

Preston City Council's print unit has boosted its folding productivity by 75% after investing in a Horizon B2 touch-folding system.

The print centre installed the Horizon AFC-546Ajdf combination system, which features perforating and scoring, to replace a 12-year-old Morgana machine.

The unit, which primarily produces corporate brochures on its four-colour B3 Heidelberg Speedmaster, has also reduced downtime.

Reprographics manager Bernard Albin said the machine could handle longer runs, and had proved faster than its previous model.

He added: "What used to take us four hours to do now takes only one."

The Horizon folder, supplied by GAE, offers speeds of 35,000sph, 17 fold patterns, including roll fold and zigzag, and an icon-based touch-screen with 200-job memory.

It also features folding rollers with a unique combination of steel and urethane foam rubber for superior grip and sharp fold, with fine-tuning on the run.

The site also operates Canon CLC51 digital copiers and a black-and-white Infotech machine.
