Positive Focus chosen as DMP distributor

Positive Focus has been appointed to distribute and integrate Belgian software developer Digital Media Partners' (DMP) web-to-print software, DMP FLO Suite, in the UK and Ireland.

The software package, which will be debuted in the UK at Publishing Expo in February, is highly flexible, according to Positive Focus managing director Ivor Dixon, who claimed it was far more powerful than most web-to-print systems.

He claimed that, because the suite was built around a Digital Asset Management (DAM), content management system and Product Information Management System (PIMS) core, it could be used in a wider range of situations than a simple web-to-print tool.

"While DMP FLO Suite can be viewed as a web-to-print application, it also has a powerful DAM, PIMS and CMS backbone that makes it a strong contender in many situations where multiple applications may otherwise have been required to handle a diversity of jobs," he said.

The software package, the starting price for which is under £10,000, runs on Adobe InDesign Server and can handle native InDesign files, in addition to PDF templates.

Positive Focus technical director Alan Dixon claimed that DMP FLO Suite can also connect easily to MIS and other production processes enabling a fully automated workflow.

In addition, the software includes colour management capability from Elpical Claro and preflight technology from Callas Software.

Alan Dixon said: "With most web-to-print solutions, integration is a real problem; in this case we have a fully open environment.

"DMP FLO Suite is a toolkit to create the application you need, not a specific solution to which you need your business model to conform."

DMP FLO Suite, which is widely used by printers, retail chains and corporates in the Benelux region, will be demonstrated at Publishing Expo on 11-12 February on stand A194.
