Police: factory fire was arson

A fire at a Northampton finishing factory is being treated as arson by local police.

Emergency services were called to the Northampton Print Finishers’ site at Scotia Close, Brackmills, at around 6pm last Thursday evening (May 31).

Police are now appealing for anyone who may have witnessed any suspicious activity around the time of the fire to come forward.

A police spokesman said: “Following investigations, it is believed that the fire was started by someone within the building.”

According to the local fire brigade, damage was caused to two forklift trucks, a van, two binding lines, a
guillotine and numerous folding machines.

Propane cylinders connected to the forklift trucks also exploded, causing blast damage to the roof and shutter doors.

Boxes of magazines and skips full of waste paper were also caught in the blaze. The building is split into two areas, although only one of the areas was affected by the fire, according to the local fire brigade.

Northampton Print Finishers could not be contacted as PrintWeek went to press.
