Polestar redundancies reduced after Unite plan accepted

The number of redundancies at Polestar Applied Solutions has been slashed to 12 after Unite agreed a number of cost-cutting measures.

Initially, the print giant announced that 30 employees would be made redundant at the company's Nottingham and Sheffield sites.

However, Unite put forward a number of suggestions that would save the company money, while reducing the number of redundancies.

After a brief delay last week, due to both parties having issues with the proposals, Unite announced it had reached a positive outcome.

It is understood that one of the key changes will allow the company to bank employees' hours when work is low and asking staff to work longer when the sites are busy.

Unite national officer Steve Sibbald said that several other cost-saving measures were also included in the agreement.

He added: "Our proposals should result in substantial savings for the company and we have ended up with just 12 redundancies. We hope that all of these will be covered by volunteers."
