Card manufacturer and printer PCS has changed its name from Plastic Card Services to Precision Card Services to reflect its evolution and present-day offering.

Coming ahead of the Macclesfield, Cheshire-based company’s 30th anniversary, the change allows it to stick with its PCS acronym while signifying how it has evolved into a manufacturer of high-quality recycled and “eco-degradable” cards.

Managing director Adam Unsworth said: “This change whilst small, has a massive significance to how we have developed over the years.

“We no longer just produce standard PVC cards suitable for gift, loyalty, and membership applications as well as smart cards and hotel key cards, but we offer a diverse range of sustainable materials including 100% recycled PVC and eco-degradable PVC as well as paper-board cards, all of which can be recycled.

“Over the years PCS has experienced continued growth, and we recognise the impact this has on the environment and the importance of being a responsible manufacturer.

“This is why we have developed a range of eco-friendly materials that offer the same quality and durability of traditional standard PVC. We believe that this new name allows us to stay true to our core business values whilst giving a clear statement of intent that we offer a wide variety of eco-friendly options.”

The company’s 2,787sqm site, which has the capacity to manufacture and process 160 million cards per year, comprises of two separate production facilities, one litho and the other digital.

These both house card production and finishing equipment, a bureau to facilitate mailing and fulfilment, a secure warehouse offering a pick and pack service for customers, and offices that handle the administration side of the business.

CEO Tim Holt, who become the sole owner of PCS following an MBO last year, said: “The business has certainly come a long way from where it started back in the 90s at the start of a recession. We have always strived to lead the way in the card market by anticipating our customers’ needs and reacting accordingly and feel that this name change will futureproof our business by allowing our customers to better understand our offering and will see us continue to evolve and grow.

“It is a great achievement that we are about to enter our 30th year of trading and following on from this rebrand we have a series of exciting developments and investments planned to continue streamlining our workflows, improve efficiencies, as well as increase capacity, all of which will benefit our customers – there are definitely exciting times ahead at Precision Card Services.”
